The International Judo Federation (IJF) has released full statistics for the Paris Olympics.

As reported by İdman.biz, 378 athletes from 122 countries will take part in the judo competition. The most popular category will be up to 81 kg, where 33 athletes will compete, including the debutant of the Azerbaijani team at the Summer Games Zelim Tsakayev. He will start the Games as a seeded participant, as will world champions Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg), Zelim Tsakayev (100 kg) and Balabey Agayev (60 kg). This means that our judokas may start the fight from the second round or get athletes with a lower rating as opponents.

At the same time, the smallest category in the men’s championship will be the +100 kg category, where Ushangi Kokauri will compete. But this is not surprising, since the weight is traditionally specific.

Taking into account the number of participants, 192 athletes will compete in the men’s tournament, and 186 in the women’s tournament.

And Hidayat Geydarov (73 kg) will perform at the Olympics not only as the world ranking leader and current world and European champion. He holds first place in the number of rating points scored among tatami masters of all weight categories.

Hidayat has 8798 points. His victory at the World Championships in Abu Dhabi allowed him to overtake Matthias Casse (81 kg). The Belgian is second (7932), and third place in the list is occupied by another Azerbaijani judoka. World Champion Zelim Kotsoyev (100) scored 7022 points and is in the top three.

If we take the indicators among men and women, Geydarov is second only to multiple world champion Krista Deguchi. The Canadian has 9690 rating points.
