Bulgaria is taking steps to develop the Middle Corridor through the planned resumption of ferry service with Georgia across the Black Sea, Day.Az reports, citing Bulgarian media.

“Representatives of the Bulgarian Railways (BDZ), the Bulgarian maritime company PNA Ltd and the Georgian Railways signed an agreement in Tbilisi on the restoration of ferry service on the Black Sea,” the media reported.

The ferry and rail links between Bulgaria and Georgia play an important role in the logistics of goods transported across the Black Sea. The restoration of the ferry links is also vital in terms of increasing the efficiency of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor (Middle Corridor), as noted following a meeting of Bulgarian and Georgian experts in Tbilisi.

The dates will be specified later.

It should be noted that the Middle Corridor has been in operation for more than 10 years, but in the last two years it has seen increased activity due to new geopolitical realities.

In 2023, 2.7 million tons of cargo passed through it (an increase of 86%); in 2024, cargo flow may exceed 4.2 million tons.
