Erl Festival: A new Salzburg ensemble delights in Tyrol with Mozartian style 2024-07-14 13:54:35

The Ensemble Péridot debuted with a concert program “Mozart in Prague”.

What a Mozart sound! The complicated structure in the first movement of the Prague Symphony KV 504 shone in many shades of melancholic, cheerful, dramatic and festive – but the best thing: despite all the existential seriousness, the Mozartian, musical lightness prevailed. After the deliberate, sparkling Andante, it went into the Presto of the third movement – and there too: eloquent and chiseled up to the final chord, which is made precise with a short, powerful crescendo.

It was like a playful competition between the instrument groups, like a lively taking up and continuing of themes from one another, which was not only evident thanks to the brilliant acoustics in the Erl Festival Hall on Saturday evening: The Ensemble Péridot under the direction of Peter Peinstingl shone at the Tyrolean Festival in front of a sold-out audience. The orchestra, which had grown out of the St. Peter’s Abbey Music, made its Austrian debut. It came to Erl with a good 40 musicians, many of whom were brilliant soloists – like Maximilian Randlinger on the flute.

The concert entitled “Mozart in Prague”, which also featured two tenor arias from “Don Giovanni” sung by Brian Michael Moore, captivated the audience from the very first part with the Clarinet Concerto KV 622. Bernhard Mitmesser from Pongau enchanted the audience from his first solo, for example in the Andante he nestled a soft piano into the softly blended strings. Peter Peinstingl stayed in the background during such a dialogue, moderating it, but then again he lured instruments out here and there or spurred them on energetically. In this way, he ensured, always confidently, a Mozartian style – right up to the fresh, robust, brisk Rondo. The final note of the Rondo was spontaneously greeted with a quiet “Bravo”, which turned into enthusiastic applause for the clarinettists and the ensemble.
