As the Panevėžys County Police announced on Facebook on Sunday morning, on July 13, around 7 p.m. 12 minutes officials received a request for help regarding a tree that fell on a Peugeot 3008 car on the Paliūniškis-Vabalninkas road.

The officers of Panevėžys county chief police commissariat promptly responded to the call, but when going to the scene, officers Giedrius and Gintaras realized that it would not be easy to reach the people trapped in the car. The storm was strong and the entire stretch of the road from Paliūniškis was covered with trees.

“It was reassuring to know that the driver of the car and his passenger were unharmed and safe. Without waiting for anything, the colleagues began to clear the road from the fallen trees, soon the volunteer rescue teams of Gegužinė and Tiltagaliai firemen rushed to help, and later the Panevėžys city fire brigade joined.

Due to the large number of uprooted trees, the officers only reached the Peugeot 3008 after a few hours. Eugene, who was driving the car, said that a tree fell on the road in front of him, and when he stopped, another tree already fell on his car.

We are happy and express our sincere thanks to David and Gedimin, who joined the storm liquidation work voluntarily and worked together with the officers without counting their time or effort,” Panevėžys County Police announced on Facebook.
