The short version

  • The 1500 meter race starts at 21.34.

Sea view

Jakob Ingebrigtsen (23) clearly has too much, as the light hare is set to maintain a pace of 3.27.50.

The runner’s profile personal record is 3.27.14. The world record is 3.26.00.

– The light hare should increase in speed over time, as Jakob likes it. This is a speed where everything is possible, says Jann Post to VG.

– Also a world record?

– It will probably be difficult, but it is planned for some time around Jacob’s press. So this will be exciting.

Ingebrigtsen’s personal record is just over a second behind Hicham El Guerrouj’s 26-year-old world record.

– Jakob is up in St. Moritz from NM and has gone to a lower track in Italy to run there. Rumors say that it is going very fast there, smiles Post.

Commentator NRK points out that Monaco is a record track, where the 1,500 meter field often has a high pace.

– There is good coverage, good weather and often a little wind. It is a tradition for people to come here to run fast. When everyone has that attitude, there will be high speed in the field.

The statistics prove Post absolutely right: Of the 13 best 1,500 meter runners in the world of all time, nine of them have set their best time in Monaco.

– When the light hare puts on 3,27,50, it says something about Jakob’s ambitions this evening. But of course it also needs to be implemented in practice.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen first finished an impressive CE, then became father to Filippa and then ran strong at home in Sandnes during the NM:

– With Jakob’s development this year and what he showed during the National Championships, and that he is now training quietly in St. Moritz, it’s amazing.

Narve Gilje Nordås (25) will also start in Monaco. This is the second time this year that he and Jakob Ingebrigtsen have run in the same field. At Bislett earlier this year, Nordås lost his shoe after 200 meters and the race was ruined. In the EC he failed completely and did not reach the final.

– Although Narve didn’t look that good in the EC, he led the field in the NM and hung well with Jakob in the 5,000 meters there. So it was a clear message that Narve is at it again.

– He certainly has a chance to push tonight.

Jann Post emphasizes that the two Norwegians will have good competition tonight from people who can also influence the final in the Olympic Games.

– Jakob had to dive to beat Timothy Cheruiyot in Bislett, while American Yared followed Nuguse Ingebrigtsen to the door in last year’s Diamond League final.

The most important moments of the evening (broadcast on NRK):

  • 20.04: Hurdles 400 meters.
  • 21.34: 1500 meters.
