In today’s time, social media has made everyone crazy. We check our social media accounts as soon as we wake up in the morning and also check them before going to sleep at night. The havoc of social media is so much that not only adults but children are also getting caught in its clutches. Children have also become seriously addicted to social media.
In the age of social media, the mental health of children and teens is at risk due to Instagram. Studies and data point to a worrying trend, wherein frequent use of these platforms is increasing anxiety and depression. Recently, 33 US states, including California and New York, took legal action against Meta Platforms, alleging that Instagram has fuelled a mental health crisis among youth by promoting addiction on its platform.
The whole world is in danger
This concern is not limited to Americans, but parents and experts globally are also concerned about this topic. Problems such as low self-esteem, social comparison and cyberbullying are increasing among children and teens due to social media sites like Instagram.

It is important to monitor children’s social media use. See if they are using these platforms in a safe and healthy way. Also, limit screen time and set time limits for children so that they do other activities as well.

Have a frank conversation
Have open conversations with children and discuss the potential risks and benefits of social media. Educate them about safe online behavior. As a parent, be a good example for your children. If you use social media responsibly, your children will follow suit.

Create rules and guidelines
Make some rules and guidelines at home for social media use. For example, make a rule of not using social media during mealtime, homework or bedtime. Use the privacy settings and controls of social media platforms so that children do not access the wrong things. Keep their profiles private and make sure that they do not contact strangers.

Monitor apps and content
Monitor the apps children use and the content they watch. It is important to know what kind of videos, posts and chats they are engaging in. From time to time, do a digital detox with the family, where everyone stays away from digital devices for some time. This is a great way to get mental peace and spend quality time with family.
