In the second quarter of 2024, Apple recorded a 20.8% increase in Mac computer shipments, the highest growth rate among global PC makers.

As reported by Day.Az with reference to Gazeta.ru, this was reported by the MacRumors portal with reference to the IDC report.

According to analysts at IDC, worldwide shipments of desktops and notebooks increased 3% year-on-year. Apple and Acer showed the biggest gains, up 20.8% and 14%, respectively. This is the second consecutive quarter of growth for the PC industry after a period of decline.

IDC Vice President Ryan Reith noted that PCs with AI capabilities could spark a new wave of upgrades. However, only about 3% of PCs shipped this year are optimized for AI tasks, according to analysts. Apple’s Mac lineup will likely continue to evolve thanks to the integration of Apple Intelligence, allowing the company to take advantage of the growing demand for such computers.

Despite weak demand in China holding back overall results, excluding China, global shipments grew more than 5%. Lenovo maintained the highest market share at nearly 23%, while HP grew 1.8% year-over-year to take 21% of the market. Dell saw shipments fall 2.4%, the only major company to record a decline in the period.

According to analytics company Canalys, the global PC market grew by 3.4% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year and reached 62.8 million units. Apple took fourth place in the ranking of PC manufacturers, having shipped 5.5 million computers. This corresponds to a market share of 9%, which is 6% more than in the second quarter of 2023.
