(Web Desk) Former all-rounder of the national cricket team Khalid Ibadullah passed away at the age of 88.

Khalid Ibadullah had a short but remarkable international career, playing only four Tests for Pakistan between 1964 and 1967, but becoming the first player for his country to score a century on Test debut.

Ibadullah made his Test debut in 1964 against Australia in Karachi, one of six Test debutants in that match. Ibadullah was included in the team at the insistence of captain Hanif Muhammad and scored 166 runs in the first innings. He was part of an opening partnership of 249 runs with fellow debutant and wicketkeeper, Abdul Qadir. This is the highest partnership between two debutants for any wicket in Test cricket and was a national record for the first wicket, broken by Amir Sohail and Ijaz Ahmed in 1997.

Warwickshire president Denis Ames, who played alongside Ibadullah at the club, paid tribute to his former team-mate, writing: “He was a special cricketer, one of the greatest, and we had a lot of fun together. Khalid Ibadullah scored 829 runs and took 84 wickets in 64 matches of List A. He also officiated as an umpire in 20 First Class and 12 List A matches. PCB has expressed deep sorrow over his demise.
