Mexican Navy officials rescued two Cuban rafters who were facing a critical situation at sea.

According to local reports, the events, which took place on July 13, indicate that the two involved found themselves in a serious bind when their small boat suffered a malfunction and began to sink approximately 148 kilometers north of Isla Mujeres.

In this sense, the Antilleans, driven by their survival instinct, improvised a way to continue their journey with the materials at their disposal: a board and several drums.

“These two people managed to get to safety on a raft made from a board and several canisters, and were located by personnel from the Ninth Naval Region approximately 185 kilometers (100 nautical miles) north of the island,” the report says.

It was reported that the alert was received by the Regional Captaincy of Puerto Juárez, which led to a rapid response by the Ninth Naval Region, which assigned the Uxmal Coastal Patrol (PC-335) to carry out the rescue.

Against all odds, personnel from the Ninth Naval Region located the Cuban rafters safely at an even greater distance than expected.

The rescued people were later taken back to land, where they received medical attention that confirmed their good health.

Both were placed under the care of the corresponding authorities, ready to continue their immigration process.

It is important to note that cases like these are often reported from both Mexico and the United States, with Cuban rafters seeking at all costs to reach lands of freedom, desperately fleeing the misery imposed by the Castro regime.
