London: Reigning champions Chelsea won the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. Chelsea beat French club Liverton by two unanswered goals in a home game last night. In another match, Italian club Juventus were held to a 1-1 draw by Spanish club Vitoria.
Chelsea won at home thanks to goals from Kai Howertz and Christian Pulic.
Chelsea took the lead in the eighth minute through Howertz. Howertz scored with a stunning header. Chelsea took the lead in the first half with this goal. In the 63rd minute, Ngolo Kante scored the second goal for Chelsea.
Juventus were held to a goalless draw by Villarreal despite conceding a goal before the kickoff whistle blew. Juventus took the lead in the 33rd minute of the match at Villarreal’s home ground. Youngster Duson Vlahovich quickly shook the net. Duson holds the record for the fastest goal by a debutant in the Champions League. It was one of the fastest goals in the Champions League. Juventus maintained the lead in the first half. But Vieira came back strong in the second half. The hosts equalized in the 66th minute through Danny Poroho.
Juventus and Chelsea will play their second-quarter pre-quarter matches on the 17th of next month.
