Novak Djokovic told the press conference ahead of the clash with Alcaraz that “history will see something new” when they meet in the Wimbledon men’s final.

Djokovic has a chance to equal Roger Federer’s record eight men’s Wimbledon titles and secure a record 25th Grand Slam triumph with victory on Sunday.

The 37-year-old Serbian, who underwent knee surgery three weeks before the start of the tournament, is currently tied with Australia’s Margaret Court on the all-time list with 24 Slam wins.

“Of course, it serves as a big motivation,” Djokovic said. “But at the same time, there’s also a lot of pressure and expectations. Wimbledon just brings out the best in me and motivates me to always show up and give my best I am capable.”

On the other side, however, Djokovic’s opponent is Alcaraz, who has not lost a single Grand Slam final so far.

Apart from the Serbian, Carlos can also set new records if he wins.

The Spaniard could become the youngest back-to-back men’s singles winner at Wimbledon since Boris Becker in 1986, and this is only Alcaraz’s fourth appearance at the championship.

He lifted his first French Open title five weeks ago and, if he wins on Sunday, he will become the youngest man to win Wimbledon and Roland Garros in the same year.

In his pre-match press conference, Alcaraz said: “Sometimes I feel like I’m 26 or 27, and then I realize I’m only 21 and it all comes too fast.”

The final is on July 14 at 16:00 Bulgarian time.
