Gangnam-gu won the ‘Encouragement Award’ at the Excellent Administrative and Policy Case Selection Contest. Gangnam-gu (Mayor Seongmyeong Cho), which draws the future and a city where dreams gather, won the Encouragement Award for the ‘Establishment and Operation of the First Space Experience Gangnam Future Education Center in the Nation’ at the ‘2024 Excellent Administrative and Policy Case Selection Contest’ held at the National Assembly Members’ Hall on the 12th. With this award, Gangnam Future Education Center has achieved the feat of a triple-crown grand slam, following the 2023 Local Administration Local Council Expo Grand Prize and the 2023 Republic of Korea Space Welfare Grand Prize, and solidified its reputation as an excellent local government education model.

Hosted by the Korea Public Policy Evaluation Association, this competition has been held since 2013 for government ministries, local governments, and public institutions to select and widely publicize successful cases of administration or policies that have contributed to national development and the improvement of the quality of life of the people. 96 teams applied for this year’s competition, and the final winning team was selected through a review committee comprised of administrative academics and practical experts. Gangnam-gu was highly praised for quickly establishing the Gangnam Future Education Center and promoting local government-specific education projects in cooperation with the private, public, and academic sectors to foster a creative and convergent future in the era of digital transformation.

Opened in September 2022, Gangnam Future Education Center is the first local government to introduce realistic content on the topic of space and Mars terraforming, and has proactively promoted education to foster future talents such as artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, and coding. Starting this year, it has newly built a future technology experience zone such as AI, XR, and robotics, and added education programs in the new tech field, operating a total of 16 programs. So far, 24,097 people have used the programs, and 79 domestic and foreign institutions have visited for benchmarking.

Gangnam-gu District Mayor Cho Seong-myeong said, “I am delighted that our efforts to foster Gangnam-type future talents have been recognized as an excellent administrative case,” and added, “As a hub for Gangnam future education, we will continue to develop educational programs tailored to the needs of parents and students.”
