TRENTO. The Alpine Troops of the Italian Army and the Interregional Snow and Avalanche Association (AINEVA) signed a collaboration agreement yesterday at the AINEVA offices in Trento.

The agreement is aimed at promoting the standardization of working methods and encouraging the development of joint opportunities for theoretical and practical updating for the respective surveyors and forecasters. A key element seems to be the exchange and sharing of data collected through automatic stations and manual surveys, as well as the forecast documents produced.

Training and refresher courses are planned that will take place both in the field, in mountain areas, and in institutional offices. Experts from both organizations will have the opportunity to share knowledge and skills, thus improving the quality of forecasts and interventions in case of emergencies related to snow phenomena.

Also worth highlighting is the possible joint participation in training activities aimed at the search and rescue of people caught in avalanches: the focus is on strengthening the response capacity in the event of mountain emergencies, ensuring timely and effective intervention.

The Commander of the Alpine Troops, General of the Army Corps Ignatius Gambasaid: “The collaboration with continues SUBSTANCE through the exchange of information on avalanche and snow phenomena of particular importance for those who move in the mountains. We Alpine troops do it for operational needs but we collaborate with pleasure with civil organizations by making available the skills and tools developed over the years. Also following tragic events that involved some young Alpine conscripts, in 1972 with Meteomont we began to identify and provide those who work in the mountains with information support useful for understanding the level of danger and moving in a framework of maximum safety”.

The President of AINEVA, Dr. Gianpaolo Bottacinhe then added: “The goal is to bring together knowledge and skills to address the avalanche risk in an increasingly scientific way. Our commitment as an association is to deal more incisively with three essential aspects for those who move in the mountains today, namely knowledge, training of professionals and information for citizens for a correct approach to risk, which in a mountain environment cannot be eliminated.”

The agreement, which will come into effect immediately, represents a significant progress in the cooperation between the armed forces and civilian bodies involved in the security and protection of mountain areas.
