During this time, they will look for majorities in the parliament for basic reforms – changing the regulators and heads of services
PP-DB want a meeting with the president to convince him to postpone the handing over of the mandate for 2 months. During this time, they will try to push through the parliament several reforms that they have been demanding for a long time. The Constitution does not specify deadlines for handing over mandates.
This postponement can be achieved by the president starting a new round of consultations with all parties given the changed political situation – the split of DPS and Velichie has totally reshaped the parliamentary landscape and the distribution of power. This is probably exactly what the coalition means by saying that they want to discuss with the president how to overcome the political crisis.
This is what the parties of the coalition agreed at a special meeting today. For two days now, they have been discussing what their priorities should be, for which they should ask for support from all parties. They hope to achieve floating majorities to support the changes in the laws they want.
PP-DB are supposed to replace mainly the regulatory bodies of the state, which they have been insisting on since the time of assembly. KONPI, FFN, CPC and other independent commissions that are elected by the parliament will undergo a total renewal. The same applies to the reform of the special services. With a change in the laws, the election of their bosses can also go through the parliament and thus the influence of both the president and the prime minister will be avoided.
DB have already announced that they want to take the mandate and make a technical government. Apparently, however, the PP cannot agree on whether to take the mandate or not. Asen Vasilev said yesterday that he does not see any possibility of forming a cabinet in this parliament. Kiril Petkov and Nikolay Denkov were more evasive. But everyone in the coalition wants to use the parliament for a longer time so that they can push through the targeted reforms.
