‘Birdie Bomber’ Go Ji-woo (22) lifted her second trophy on the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour.

Go Ji-woo shot three birdies without a bogey in the final fourth round of the KLPGA Tour High1 Resort Women’s Open held at the High1 Country Club (par 72) in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province on the 14th. Go Ji-woo, who recorded a final total of 19-under 269, won the championship by two strokes over second-place Jeon Ye-seong (17-under 271). Go Ji-woo recorded her second win on the tour in a year since her first win on the tour at the McCall-Mona Yongpyong Open in July last year. The prize money for the winner is 180 million won.

Go Ji-woo, who started with a one-stroke lead, made two birdies in the first half to widen the gap to the second-place group, including Jeon Ye-seong, who reduced the score by one stroke. Go Ji-woo was chased by one stroke again on the 11th hole (par 5), but escaped the crisis by making a 4.6m birdie putt on the 15th hole (par 5). Go Ji-woo, who shed tears after confirming her victory, said, “I haven’t played well since my first win. I’m crying because I desperately wanted to win.”

Go Ji-woo earned the nickname ‘Birdie Bomber’ in 2022, her debut on the KLPGA Tour. With aggressive play, she recorded 336 birdies in 29 tournaments, tying for first place in total birdies. Her average number of birdies per round was 2nd (3.8). However, she was unable to get close to the championship because she had many bogeys. Go Ji-woo recorded 245 bogeys in 2022. Last year, she had more bogeys (282) than birdies (266).

However, in this tournament, Go Ji-woo conquered the top with a different look than in the past. In four days, he caught a total of 20 birdies (second most birdies), but only had one bogey. Go Ji-woo said, “It means a lot to me that I only had one bogey,” and “I adjusted my swing posture to increase precision, and I made fewer mistakes even when I played aggressively.”

The KLPGA Tour will take a 17-day break before entering the second half of the year, starting with the Jeju Samdasoo Masters on August 1. Go Ji-woo expressed her determination, saying, “I want to win a major tournament in the second half of the year.” There will be three major tournaments in the second half of the year: the Hanwha Classic (August), the KB Financial Star Championship (September), and the Hite Jinro Championship (October).
