Egypt and Qatar, which are mediating indirect talks between the Palestinian Hamas movement and the Israeli authorities, are making efforts to reach agreements despite the obstacles created by Israel. This was stated by a representative of the radical movement’s leadership, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.
“Egypt and Qatar continue their efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement [в Газе] and [израильской] aggression, despite Israel’s policy of opposition,” said a Hamas spokesman, quoted by the Al-Qahira al-Ikhbariya television channel.
According to him, “the negotiations stalled some time ago due to the intransigence of the Israeli side and tactics [Израиля]”slowing down and protracting the negotiations.” In addition, the representative of the radical movement added, Israel “put forward new conditions that go beyond the latest proposal” for resolving the conflict in the Palestinian sector.
Some time ago, Hamas denied the information that it had allegedly decided to stop indirect negotiations with the Israeli side on Gaza. As the official representative of the radical movement Izzat al-Rishk stated, what was published by the French Agence France-Presse and disseminated by some media outlets about Hamas’ decision to break off negotiations [по урегулированию в Газе] in response to the attack by Israeli forces near Khan Yunis, “has no basis whatsoever.” He noted that “one of the goals of the new escalation by the government [премьер-министра Израиля Биньямина] Netanyahu’s goal is to block the path to reaching agreements that will stop [израильскую] aggression against the Palestinian people.” Ar-Rishk added that “now [после израильской атаки близ Хан-Юниса] “It became obvious to everyone.”
On July 13, Israeli forces launched an airstrike in the Al-Mawasi area near the city of Khan Yunis, located in the southern Gaza Strip. According to the enclave’s Health Ministry, 90 Palestinians were killed and about 300 were injured in the attack. According to the ministry, almost half of the dead were women and children. The attack targeted an area where tents for internally displaced persons were located. According to Al Hadath TV channel, the Israeli attack killed Rafia Salama, the leader of the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement in Khan Yunis. According to Al Hadath, the main goal of the Al-Mawasi bombing was to eliminate the leader of the military wing of Hamas, Mohammed al-Deif. There is still no precise information about the condition or whereabouts of the leader of the military wing of Hamas.
