Coronavirus: 70th FIFA Congress to take place virtually on 18 September

Lausanne – The 70th FIFA Congress, originally scheduled to take place in Addis Ababa, will take place virtually “online” on September 18, the world football body announced on Tuesday.

In early March, FIFA announced that the congress, scheduled for June 5, would be maintained in the Ethiopian capital, but postponed to September 18, 2020 due to the coronavirus crisis.

FIFA announced on Tuesday that the congress would finally be held “online on September 18”. It is expected to be preceded by a meeting of the Council, the body’s executive body, also online.

In addition, a meeting of the same Council, scheduled for March 20 but which had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, must be rescheduled for June-July and held by videoconference.

The body also announced new dates for several international tournaments, “subject to the evolution of the situation”: the U-20 Women’s World Cup will be held in Costa Rica and Panama from January 20 to February 6, 2021, with the eligibility criteria initially set; the U-17 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to be held in India from February 17 to March 7, 2021 and the Futsal World Cup in Lithuania from September 12 to October 3, 2021.
