Algerian President issues unprecedented decree!

For the first time and in an unprecedented decree, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune allowed “the delegation of military personnel still in service to fill civilian positions and jobs in public administrations.”

The presidential decree stipulates that “dean officers and senior officers are delegated to occupy some senior positions in the state, within strategic and sensitive sectors in terms of sovereignty and the country’s vital interests.”

The decree indicated that “the termination of the mandate shall be automatic after the expiry of the necessary period, which is one year, renewable 3 times, or at the initiative of the Minister of Defense or the authority responsible for public civil administration, in coordination with the Minister of Defense during the mandate period, or upon the request of the soldier himself.”

According to the decree, “military personnel are assigned to civilian positions that correspond to their ranks in the army, and they remain subordinate to the Ministry of Defense, which supervises the management of their career path.” “Military personnel assigned to civilian positions remain ‘subject to all the basic legal duties that govern the status of the military, and they receive their salaries according to the military system.’”

This decree is an unprecedented step in Algeria for the military, as it was common practice to appoint retired military personnel to civilian positions.
