These days, Rhodes is hosting a distinguished friend, the acclaimed composer, Mr. Giorgos Katsaros, in the context of a musical concert organized by the Municipality of Rhodes on the evening of Wednesday, July 17, in the courtyard of the Tower of the Knights.
A charismatic musical creator who for 10 years dominates the music scene of our country with the wonderful melodies sung by all of Greece to this day and the general presence and contribution to the cinema, the music scene and music education.
Born and raised in the musical birthplace of Corfu, he grew up listening to the great musicians of his homeland and the entire nation, Madzaro, Samara and others and utilized his innate talent, which elevated him to the podiums of international saxophone as well as a great teacher and creator.
The homeland and Greek music owe him a lot. But our Rhodes also owes him a musical conquest. The Music School of Rhodes which for three or so 10 years educates and feeds the musical education of our Rhodes with its wonderful teachers and its excellent graduates who serve the art of music and education in all its forms.
It was the summer of 1993 when, as the Mayor of Rhodes, I invited him to our island among our other distinguished guests to commemorate the celebration of two thousand four hundred years since the foundation of our city.
Our old friendship from the island of Faiakos and since then the twinning of our two islands developed a friendly constructive discussion on our common problems, on the occasion of which he asked me if it works at the Rhodes Music School. In my negative answer, he then asked me to send him a decision of the Municipal Council of Rhodes for the establishment of such a school unit in our city, a request that I would personally forward as a member and special rapporteur for the establishment of Music Schools in our country to a special Committee of the Ministry Education.
He responded immediately and in just one month he informed me of the happy fact of the approval of the establishment of the Music School in our Rhodes.
This is how the registry act of the birth of this great musical creation in our city was drawn up and signed, which for years now supplies our Rhodes and the whole of Greece with charismatic musicians and teachers.
