Guillermo Paiva is not going through his best moment in Chile. He was denied a goal, his coach failed him and everything was pure drama.
Colo Colo defeated Club Deportes Santa Cruz by a narrow margin (1-0) in a match corresponding to the semi-finals of the regional phase of the Copa Chile.
The former Olimpia striker started as a starter and played until the 77th minute, when he was substituted amid the obvious annoyance of his coach, the Argentine Jorge Almirón, who opted to send him to the bench after he failed in all the goal-scoring opportunities that were offered to him.
Paiva did not hide his frustration and was on the verge of shedding tears of helplessness as he looked for his place among the substitutes. The one who accompanied him the most at that moment was Arturo Vidal, who showed him his support and encouraged him.
“The striker was deeply affected by Almirón’s decision and, when he sat down on the bench, he covered his face with his shirt and let out his frustration. Vidal, who had just sat down in the row in front of him, turned around and gave him the necessary words of support,” the Chilean press reported.
And the pressure is mounting on Paiva. He has five goals and four assists in 26 games with the Colo Colo shirt and has no room for error against the arrival of Argentine striker Javier Correa, who aims to oust him from the team.
The board of directors of the Argentine team has decided to wait until the end of the season to decide whether to exercise the purchase option it has on the Paraguayan’s transfer (Olimpia could receive a little more than a million dollars).
