The international song contest Eurovision 2025 is under threat. Switzerland, where the artists Nemo won this year with the song “The Code”, has unexpectedly come out against the event. The Federal Democratic Union plans to initiate a referendum to prevent the allocation of public funds for Eurovision 2025.

According to RTS, the party justifies its actions by concerns about possible pro-Palestinian rallies, similar to those that took place in Malmö in May 2024. In addition, the party expresses concern that some of the contestants may perform songs that glorify “Satanism and the occult”, citing as an example the Irish representative Bambie Thug with the song “Doomsday Blue”.

At the moment, the official position of the Swiss authorities on this issue is unknown. The country is due to announce the host city of Eurovision 2025 in August after consultations with the European Broadcasting Union. In the event of a referendum against the contest, this could happen after the host city has been announced.

The winners of Eurovision 2024, Swiss artists Nemo with the song “The Code”, won their country the right to host the contest, but now the future of the event is in question.

Earlier, Cursor wrote that the media reported whether Israel would take part in Eurovision 2025.
