The bankruptcy of the tour operator FTI at the beginning of June affected hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers. Now they will soon receive compensation – but only for a certain type of trip.
Six weeks after the bankruptcy of the tour operator FTI, affected customers can soon expect compensation. The German Travel Insurance Fund, which insures package tours, will start the reimbursement process “shortly,” a spokeswoman explained in response to a query from the German Press Agency. This involves more than 250,000 canceled package tours.
The spokeswoman did not give an exact date for the start of payments. The specialist portal “fvw.de” had previously reported that it was expected that the reimbursement options would be activated during the course of this week.
The German tour operator FTI, previously number three on the market behind Tui and DER Touristik, filed for bankruptcy at the beginning of June. As a result, all trips that had already been booked were canceled by the company. Customers who had booked package tours can, however, rely on the protection of the German Travel Insurance Fund. This secures payments already made in the event of the tour operator becoming insolvent. However, the fund does not offer protection for individually booked travel services such as hotel bookings without additional services.
