Mayan Train Statistics and Updates: 7 Months After Inauguration – Part 1 of Transportation

General Oscar David Lozano Aguila presented statistics on the Mayan Train’s trips and what the train currently looks like. Part – 1 of transportation, it 7 months after inauguration.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) pointed out – at the beginning of his conference – that every Monday progress of the maya trainas it happened while it was under construction; for this reason, on this 15 July he resumed the details regarding transport to the southeast.

Lozano Águila clarified that as of July 11, 205 days of operation have been recorded, so almost a quarter of a million people have been transported since its inauguration in December 2023.

Oscar David Lozano commented, “246,926 people have walked in the sections that are already operational, equivalent to 2.6 times the capacity of the Azteca Stadium.”

In addition, he described the Mayan Train as “the most important archaeological ecological project in the world”.

The general highlighted that the Maya trains are on the route:

  • 6 Hotels
  • 4 airports
  • 3 Parks
  • 10 visitor service centers in the same number of archaeological areas

In Section 1 of the Maya Train, which corresponds to 857 kilometers of railway, there are two passenger services per day, From Cancun to Palenque and Palenque to CancunHence they have transported 43,065 people on this section from 1st January till today.

These surprises are coming for the Maya Train

Maite Ramos Gómez, director of Alstom Mexico, explained that the Maya Train currently has 10 trains with 4 diesel cars and 7 trains with 4 diesel-electric cars.

The director of Alstom Mexico explained that the dual trains (diesel-electric) are connected to the catenary of the electrified part of the track.

The convoy is produced at the Alstom Mexico plant in Ciudad Sahagún, Hidalgo. In total, the Mayan Train will have 49 trains.

AMLO says Mayan train is an “earthly paradise”

For his part, López Obrador pointed out that boarding the Mayan train and Traveling on its route is like being in “Heaven on Earth”. Which is not found anywhere in the world.

“We are talking about one of the most beautiful regions in the world, it’s not just about going to Palenque one day. It’s the Bacalar Lagoon, it’s Calakmul, it’s the Jaguar Park; they are beautiful cities like Merida, Campeche,” he said.

He claimed the service was working well as the units arrived at each station on time.
