It’s mid-July, when the real heat begins. Every year, the record-breaking heat wave breaks out, making it increasingly difficult to survive the summer…

The hotter it gets, the more we crave for it! Cold things that can paralyze our five senses! We’ve gathered all the cold things together, regardless of food or location! Let’s go together to find a true getaway that will make you shiver just by looking at it.

This week (July 15-19) EBS 1TV current affairs and cultural programs <한국기행>The five-part series ‘I Like It Cold’ will air.

Gyeongsang-do has become the ‘Mecca of noodles’ as noodle factories have been built in large numbers in the past! Even within Gyeongsang-do, various types of noodles have developed according to the characteristics of each region. Among them, we visited a place that serves cold noodles.

The first place we visited was Daegu Metropolitan City, which is considered the hottest city in Korea and has a nickname of ‘Dae-frica (Daegu + Africa)’. Daegu in particular is said to have a special love for noodles, to the point that it ranks first in the nation in terms of noodle consumption, and as if to prove this, there is a ‘noodle alley’ in Daegu Seomun Market where noodle shops are lined up.

Here, anyone can enjoy cold noodles that are cheap and delicious to beat the heat! Janchi noodles and kalguksu, which I thought were only served warm, can be enjoyed as cold cold noodles. I wonder what they taste like!

The second place I visited was Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do. It was a wealthy city that settled early along the Namgang River, and the Gyobang culture was particularly developed. The food that originated from that Gyobang culture was Jinju Naengmyeon! It is said that there was a saying that “If there is Pyongyang Naengmyeon in the North, there is Jinju Naengmyeon in the South.” It is characterized by colorful and splendid ingredients, including Yukjeon (pork cutlet)! We learn the secret recipe at a naengmyeon restaurant that continues the tradition of Jinju Naengmyeon.

A cold noodle battle to beat the summer heat! Which is your choice between Daegu Naengmyeon and Jinju Naengmyeon?
