About half of the musicians who will perform at the multi-genre festival Color Meeting in Polička this week will come from abroad. It is often presented for the first time in the Czech Republic. The event will take place on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th July. In addition to experimental performers and minority genres, it will also traditionally include theater performances for children and accompanying programs.
For example, the 39-year-old Spanish innovator of the flamenco genre, Niño de Elche, will arrive in Polička in the eastern part of Bohemia, which has a population of approximately 9,000.
“The singer, musician, composer, poet, essayist and philosopher has been immersed in flamenco since childhood, which he does not consider a settled tradition but a living art, so he innovatively combines it with electronics, krautrock, hip hop, experiments, poetry, dance and multimedia performances “, the organizers say. Niño de Elche collaborated with, for example, the singer Rosalia or the producer Raül Refree.
The British folk experimentalists Stick In The Wheel, the English group Vega Trails, formed by the union of musicians from the Portico Quartet and Mammal Hands, or the Dutch Conjunto Papa Upa, mixing psychedelia and surf rock with Caribbean rhythms, will also perform.
The music program will be complemented by personalities from the Czech and Slovak scene, led by the groups Midi lidi, Zrní, Modrými horami or Fyield, which is the current project of Václav Havelka and the Icelandic musician Pan Thorarensen. Singer Bára Zmeková and pianist Beata Hlavenková will also perform in a duo with modular synthesizer player Leoš Hort, who calls himself HRTL.
Most of the concerts will take place in the park near the city walls, some will be in St. James’s Church, and the audience will see the theater on Palackého náměstí. The film Invisible Landscapes from 2022 will be screened in the theater club, followed by a discussion with its director Ivo Bystřičan. The Color Meeting in Polička has been held since 2001.
