Microsoft has banned its employees in China from using Android devices for work, Bloomberg reports, Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru.

According to Bloomberg, the company’s Chinese employees must stop using any Android devices for work purposes and instead use the Microsoft Authenticator password manager and the Identity Pass app. If employees do not have Apple devices, Microsoft will provide them with iPhone 15 smartphones for work purposes.

After Chinese authorities denied last fall that they would ban Apple devices for business purposes, Microsoft became the first major company to ban the use of rival devices. This may be because the company’s Google Play infrastructure is officially not operational in China, and Android devices often use alternative app stores that may pose a security risk.

The reports of a ban on Android devices at Microsoft have not been officially confirmed, but are reportedly already in effect. In the near future, the company’s Chinese employees will be required to verify their identity through Apple devices to access corporate information systems.
