Broadcaster Jang Young-ran recalled her difficult days as a rookie.
On the 13th, a video titled ‘Where did Jang Young-ran cry in secret every day 20 years ago?’ was uploaded to the YouTube channel ‘A-class Jang Young-ran’.
In the video, Jang Young-ran visits the SBS building in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. He recalls his rookie days as a reporter and says, “I really suffered a lot. I was treated so badly, cried on the stairs, and stayed in the bathroom…” and is unable to continue speaking.
Jang Young-ran recalled, “I had to memorize the script, but since there were a lot of people, I practiced on the stairs of the broadcasting station. I practiced my pronunciation with a ballpoint pen in my mouth.” “But when I made a mistake on a live broadcast, I cried and said, ‘Oh, I guess I don’t fit in with the broadcast, really.’”
Jang Young-ran also confessed, “I was so ignored and it was hard. People yelled at me to ‘go to the temple.’ I was also beaten by managers and bodyguards.”
Jang Young-ran also recalled someone who helped her when she was having a hard time. “PD Park Ki-hong told me, ‘Your bright side is your charm. So don’t be discouraged.’ He always comforted me with such warm eyes,” she said, expressing her gratitude.
Meanwhile, Jang Young-ran debuted as an Mnet VJ in 2001. In 2003, she worked as a reporter for SBS TV’s ‘Midnight TV Entertainment’. She gained popularity by appearing in many entertainment programs, such as SBS TV’s ‘Real Romance Love Letter’ and KBS 2TV’s ‘Escape from Crisis Number One’. She is currently appearing in Channel A’s entertainment program ‘These Days Parenting, My Precious Child’ and Channel A’s ‘Please Give Me Grades: Teachers’.
