More than 500 elements will protect the 2024 Mexico City Half Marathon

The Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) will deploy a device of more than 500 officers to protect the “XVII Edition of the BBVA Mexico City Half Marathon 2024“, which will take place this Sunday July 14 on the main roads of the Cuauhtémoc municipality.

In order to guarantee safety and traffic conditions during the sporting event, the SSC CDMX will implement a comprehensive operation that will have 573 elements, 71 patrol cars, 15 motorcycles, two cranes, four ambulances and three motorcycle ambulances from the Rescue and Medical Emergency Squad (ERUM).

In addition, a Condor helicopter will fly over the area to provide aerial surveillance, the capital’s police said.

The race route will advance through Paseo de la Reforma to the Lomas areawill go through sections I and II of Chapultepec Forest, to exit at the height of Ghandi and return to Paseo de la Reforma Avenue, heading towards the goal at the Angel of Independence.

Officers will be strategically distributed along the route, from the Bicentennial Fountain (Torre del Caballito) to the Monument to the Angel of Independence, to ensure the safety of participants and attendees.

Guaranteed traffic conditions during the 2024 Mexico City Half Marathon

To facilitate mobility during the event, the Undersecretariat of Traffic Control will implement traffic cuts on avenues such as Paseo de la Reforma, Glorieta del Ahuhuete, Monte Athos, Calzada Chivatito and 1st Section of Chapultepec Forest.

Road alternatives for motorists:

  • To the North: Lázaro Cárdenas Central Axis and Inner Circuit
  • To the South: Lázaro Cárdenas Central Axis and Inner Circuit
  • To the West: Chapultepec, Constituyentes and Presidente Masaryk Avenues

The SSC reiterates its commitment to guaranteeing safety and traffic conditions during the 2024 CDMX Half Marathon, inviting motorists to take the necessary precautions and participants to enjoy the event responsibly.

This Sunday, July 14, the 17th Edition of the BBVA Mexico City Half Marathon 2024in which 30 thousand people will participate, leaving from Paseo de la Reforma Avenue, in front of the Torre del Caballito, starting at 5:55 a.m.

According to the Mexico City Sports Institute (INDEPORTE), the circuit covers 21,970 kilometers and will have the Angel of Independence as its goal.

Runners with motor disabilities, blind people and visually impaired people will be in the first starting block at 5:50, while the elite block will start at 6:05. Afterwards, the starting flag will be given to the Adidas black block, as well as to the yellow block.

The green block will start at 06:15, the blue block will start at 06:40 and the orange block will be the last, starting at 07:00.

INDEPORTE pointed out that it is important for runners to respect their departure time to avoid incidents.

The race is certified and approved by the Mexican Federation of Athletics Associations (FMAA) and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).

Operation in the CDMX Metro

On the occasion of the XVII Edition of the BBVA Mexico City Half Marathon 2024, the Mass Transit System (STC) Metro will begin operations at 5:00 a.m. on Line 1, from Observatorio to Balderas; Line 2, Line 3 and Line 9; runners will have free access upon showing their registration number.

This year, the central theme of the 2024 Half Marathon is the female runner, therefore, the medal and the shirt are inspired by these figures, which continue the series of medals presented in 2019 and which feature icons such as the catrina, the mariachi, the organ grinder, the dancer and the wrestler.

The Mexico City Government, through various agencies, will mount an operation that includes the participation of 330 urban service elements from the Ministry of Public Works and Services; 573 police officers from the Ministry of Citizen Security, supported by 71 patrol cars, 15 motorcycles, two cranes, four ambulances and three motorcycle ambulances from the Rescue and Medical Emergency Squadron (ERUM), as well as a helicopter from the Condors Group.

In addition, 120 members of the Ministry of Health, 180 from the Red Cross and five members of the Ministry of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection.
