“We prepared for the tournament for a whole year. We trained twice a day. At the same time, we tested our strength in test matches.”
As reported by İdman.biz, Azerbaijani women’s national basketball team (U-16) player Leyla Allahverdiyeva told journalists about this at a welcoming ceremony at Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
She commented on the team’s victory at the European Championship in Gibraltar:
“There was excitement and tension before the games. As a family, we trusted and believed in each other. We promised to lift the cup above our heads. The support and trust of our coaches became a great motivation for us on this path. We thank everyone who supported us.”
Allahverdiyeva said that the victory over Armenia in the first game became additional motivation for them:
“There was some excitement before the match. But the coaches prepared us well for this game. Our excitement completely passed, and as a result, we defeated Armenia and raised the flag of our country.”
It should be noted that this was the second consecutive championship for our basketball players in Division C.
