UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Zero Emissions Ed Miliband will attend the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, Day.Az reports with reference to The Guardian.
“Ed Miliband will travel to Azerbaijan in November to attend the COP29 climate summit. He will lead the UK delegation to the key international climate talks and meet with political leaders from around the world,” the publication notes.
According to the publication, the main item on the agenda of the summit in Baku will be climate financing for developing countries to help them reduce greenhouse gas emissions and cope with the consequences of extreme weather conditions.
“Ed Miliband has a proven track record of working at the COP and on all issues related to these multilateral negotiations,” The Guardian quotes former executive secretary of the UN Climate Change Commission Christiana Figueres (now a founding partner of the think tank Global Optimism).
Miliband served as UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change from 2008 to 2010. He was appointed Secretary of State for Energy Security and Zero Emissions on 5 July 2024.
Let us recall that COP29 will be held in Baku from November 11 to 22.
