ONEE strengthens and secures the drinking water supply of the town of Taounate and neighboring municipalities
Taounate – On February 13, 2024, the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) began production of the Taounate treatment plant extension project from the Sahla dam, aimed at strengthening and securing the drinking water supply to the city of Taounate and neighboring municipalities.
With a total cost of approximately 76 million dirhams, financed with the participation of the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau Bank (KFW), this project includes the extension work of the raw water pumping station and the existing treatment station for an additional nominal flow of 8,640 m³ per day, making it possible to increase the production capacity of the current station to 12,960 m³ per day, as well as the reinforcement of the treated water pumping station, ONEE indicates in a press release.
This project, which is part of the National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Program (PNAEPI) 2020-2027, the agreement of which was signed on January 13, 2020 before His Majesty King Mohammed VI, will meet the drinking water needs of the city of Taounate and neighboring municipalities by 2030, benefiting a total population of more than 149,000 inhabitants, it is specified.
It will also contribute to improving the living conditions of the beneficiary populations and to supporting the socio-economic development of this region, concludes the same source.
