The protest of truckers against expensive fuels, which started in recent days from Sicily and went up to Puglia, is likely to spread throughout Italy in a few hours. With consequences on supermarket shelves: because without trucks carrying food products, they will soon be empty. The first concrete effect comes from Molise: the La Molisana pasta factory stops production from tomorrow. “Our truck drivers – explains the managing director Giuseppe Ferro – cannot leave the plant because they would be stopped by their colleagues who are blocking roads and highways starting from Puglia: not being able to bring the semolina from the mill to the plant and the pasta from the plant to the distributors, we have decided to stop production from tomorrow. And I think we will not be the only company to do so ».

The demands of truckers

The protests of the truck drivers, which started from Sicily, have been concentrated for two days in Puglia. From Taranto to Foggia, passing through the Bari area: today the truck drivers concentrated the protests on the State Road 96, in particular in the industrial area of Altamura. “The costs are so high that traveling has become too expensive and so we have decided to stop the vehicles,” explains Gianni Nuzzi, owner of a transport company in Altamura and president of the consortium of carriers Gaa. “There are more than 600 vehicles stopped – he adds – we tried to resist with our companies but we can’t take it anymore”. The protest will culminate on Friday in a peaceful demonstration that will bring the “snail” trucks, explains Nuzzi, to the gates of Bari. “We ask – he adds – the drop in excise duties on diesel and a reduction in the tax burden, motorway discounts and the recognition of our work as a wearisome one: you cannot get to 68 years and still drive a truck. We will protest to the bitter end and we are considering moving the protest to Rome ».
