Students have blocked the railway track in Mohakhali amid ongoing agitation demanding reform of quota system in government jobs. Since Tuesday (July 16) at 2:00 p.m., almost the whole country’s rail communication with Dhaka has been stopped due to the railway blockade.
Dhaka Divisional Railway Manager of Bangladesh Railway Mohammad Sofiqur Rahman confirmed the matter.
Dhaka (Kamalapur) Railway Station Master Anwar Hossain said that due to the blockade, two trains were stuck around Mahakhali. If the two trains do not leave, the train movement will not be normal on this railway.
Except for the Dhaka-Narayanganj and Dhaka-Padma Bridge routes, all trains in the country use the blocked railway track to travel to the capital. Due to the blockade, the rail communication system with Dhaka across the country is practically closed at present.
Meanwhile, students blocked roads in different parts of the capital on Tuesday (July 16) demanding quota reform. Due to the blocking of Mahakhali railway gate, the traffic on the road has also stopped along with the trains. Hundreds of vehicles are stuck from Banani to Shaheen Bagh. Students also blocked the Kalsi flyover from 1 pm to 3:30 pm. Later, when the BCL workers took a stand on the field, the students changed their position.
Apart from this, there are reports of students clashing with Chhatra League, the ruling party’s student organization, in various parts of the capital.
