/ On Friday, Spanish farmers threatened to drive tractor trailers in Madrid to protest next Monday, coinciding with the European Union’s agricultural sector council meeting.

According to the Spanish news agency EFE, the call for a demonstration in Madrid on Monday, February 26, was launched by the agricultural organizations Asaja, COAG and UPA, which are currently putting the final touches on the event.

The agency pointed out that all organizations consider the European Agriculture Ministers Council, which will be held next week, to be of great importance, and are calling on the Spanish government to make changes to European agricultural policies that the sector is demanding within the European Union.

She added that the huge tractor march in Madrid, which will end this wave of protests, will end in front of the headquarters of the European institution.

This came at a time when the organizations continue their protests in different places, and are expected to continue at least for the rest of February, as they headed yesterday, Thursday, to the ports of some cities, such as Cadiz and Valencia, and tried to obstruct the exit of vehicles from the port.

Hundreds of farmers and ranchers and around a hundred tractors gathered around the Valencia Port Authority headquarters. After two weeks of agricultural protests, the number of arrests has now exceeded fifty people, around 9,000 people have been identified and more than 3,000 complaints have been filed.

A tractor trailer also injured 10 people, five of them police and five protesters, sparking widespread political controversy in the country.
