Heavy transport restriction schedules in Santa Lucía Milpas Altas, Sacatepéquez

He Municipal Council of Santa Lucia Milpas Altas, Sacatepequezannounced the implementation of a new Restriction on heavy transport in the urban area of ​​the municipalityThis measure seeks to reduce traffic congestion caused by the entry of these vehicles, which mainly head towards National Route 10, Aldea Santo Tomás, and route RD-16 to La Choza and Bárcenas.

This measure will be implemented from Monday to Friday, at specific times: from 6:00 to 8:00 am and from 12:00 to 2:00 pm. During these periods, the circulation of certain vehicles will be prohibited to alleviate traffic and improve mobility in the area.

Vehicles that will not be allowed to enter during restricted hours

The provision applies to the following types of vehicles:

  • Loading and unloading trucks from 6 tons
  • Transport with platforms
  • Vehicles with vans up to 53 feet
  • Heavy machinery
  • Fuel tankers
  • Mixers
  • Dump Trucks
  • Bulk carriers
  • Transport distributor of non-perishable products that supply neighborhood stores

These regulations are detailed in the third point of ACTA No. 53-2024, which was published in the Official Gazette on Monday, July 15, the date on which it came into effect. According to article 3 of this document, the measure affects transportation that circulates from San Lucas Sacatepéquez on National Route 10 —RN10— and enters through 6a Avenida de Zona 1, the urban area, as well as those heading to the junction known as “Cruce de Florencia”. It also affects those circulating from Magdalena Milpas Altas towards the Cruce de Florencia and those coming from Antigua Guatemala on RN10 and intend to enter the urban area of ​​Santa Lucía Milpas Altas.

Vehicles may enter at any time

There are some exceptions to this regulation. The following cargo vehicles can enter the urban area without restrictions:

  • Transport for distributing drinking water, such as water pipes
  • Garbage collection trucks
  • Vehicles transporting perishable products
  • Delivery trucks from local stores that transport perishable products, such as sausages and ice cream, among others.
  • Cranes that can verify that they will be providing service to heavy transport with mechanical defects on the aforementioned roads

Fines could reach up to 5 thousand quetzales

To ensure compliance with this provision, the Municipality has established fines ranging from two thousand to five thousand quetzales. These sanctions will be applied to transporters who violate the regulations and circulate during restricted hours.
