BEIJINGThe number of invention patents granted in China in the first two months of this year registered a sharp increase of 77.56 percent year on year, according to the country’s top intellectual property regulator.
According to the latest monthly report released by China’s National Intellectual Property Administration, the country granted a total of 152,258 invention patents between January and February.
Of this total, corporate patents accounted for the majority and represented the highest year-on-year growth rate compared to those obtained by universities, research institutions and individuals.
The granting of utility model and design patents saw a year-on-year drop of 26.03 percent and 23.44 percent respectively, resulting in a year-on-year decrease of 9.9 percent in the total number of patents granted to these three groups, the report said.
