When she was 18, Barbora Krejcikova was done with girls’ tennis and didn’t know what to do. One option is to continue his education, and the other is to try a career with the professionals. In an attempt to find a solution, the athlete from Brno goes to the home of the champion from “Wimbledon ’98” Yana Novotna.
“I knocked on the door and when she opened it, I handed her a very personal letter asking for advice. After reading it, Jana immediately told me that I had the necessary potential for great success and that I should continue. It changed my life as a tennis player. And shortly before her death (Novotna died in 2017 from cancer), Yana told me that I should try to win a Grand Slam title.
This is what the new Wimbledon champion told almost through tears. In the final, Krejcikova beat Jasmine Paolini (It) 6:2, 2:6, 6:4.
Thus, Barbora became the first representative of the Czech Republic with at least one individual title from the “Grand Slam”. In 2021, she won Roland Garros. In his career, he also has 7 doubles cups, 3 mixed cups from “Shlema” and an Olympic gold medal from Tokyo.
“To be honest, the Wimbledon title was not my big goal. When I was 12, I kept a journal. I recently looked at it and saw that I had written there that I wanted to win the French Open. In fact, this was my dream”, said Krejcikova.
