With the CMF Phone 1, the manufacturer Nothing is entering the German smartphone market. The device impresses with a unique design idea and special accessories.

The London start-up Nothing is not as well known as Apple, Google or Samsung, but has made a name for itself since the launch of the Phone (2). The CMF Phone 1 is another smartphone from the brand that is characterized by its unique design and clever functions.

The back of the CMF Phone 1 can be unscrewed and provides a glimpse of the technical inner workings of the device. Although this is not a removable battery – the battery is firmly anchored and not glued – it clearly shows Nothing’s innovative approach to design and functionality.

The device is well equipped and offers a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with full HD resolution, a refresh rate of 120 Hertz and a brightness of up to 2,000 nits. These features are not a given in this price range and for a device under 300 euros. In addition, there is the solid mid-range MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor, which is already used (upclocked) in the Nothing Phone (2a) and has performed very well there.

The main camera on the back of the CMF Phone 1 has a high-resolution 50-megapixel sensor. The front camera has a selfie resolution of 16 megapixels. 8 gigabytes (GB) of RAM and expandable storage of up to 2 terabytes (TB) are integrated into the device. In addition, the smartphone offers WiFi 6, dual SIM and a 5,000 mAh battery with quick charging of up to 33 watts.

A small downside for European users could be the lack of the NFC radio standard, which is mainly used for contactless payment with smartphones. Since the CMF Phone 1 was originally designed primarily for the Indian market, where NFC does not yet play a major role, this function is not included. Those who prefer to pay with cash or debit card anyway should not be bothered by this.

The CMF Phone 1 runs on the Nothing OS 2.6 operating system, which is based on Android 14 but comes without so-called bloatware – i.e. without unnecessary pre-installed apps. The device is available now and costs 239 euros for the model with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage. The version with 256 GB storage costs 269 euros.

The smartphone is available in four colors: black, orange, blue and light green. In addition, the company offers various extras, including a stand, a card holder or a lanyard. These can be attached to the back of the device after the back has been unscrewed.

Modern technology at an affordable price and some interesting extras: The CMF Phone 1 offers an interesting overall package and could be an alternative to more expensive devices, especially for price-conscious customers.
