New Delhi: Congress’s Gaurav Gogoi will be the party’s deputy leader in the Lok Sabha and a letter regarding this decision has been sent to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. All India Congress Committee (AICC) organization general secretary K.C. Venugopal said in a post on ‘X’ that Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi has written a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Birla informing him about the appointment of Congress Deputy Leader, Chief Whip and two Whips in the lower house of Parliament.
He said Gogoi will be the deputy leader of the party in Lok Sabha, while eight-time MP from Kerala K. Suresh will be the party’s chief whip. He said Virudhunagar MP Manikam Tagore and Kishanganj MP Mohammad Javed will be the party’s whips in Lok Sabha.
Earlier, the party had appointed Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Venugopal said, “Under the guidance of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, the Congress and the parties of the ‘India’ alliance will strongly raise the issues of the people in the Lok Sabha.” Gogoi was also the deputy leader of the party in the last term of the Lok Sabha. Gogoi expressed gratitude to Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Venugopal. Gogoi said in a post on ‘X’, “I congratulate my colleagues. Our aim will be to raise the voice of the people of India in Parliament and strengthen our democracy.”
