On July 16, two bodies were found in a room in the Sonfonia-Marché sector, in the commune of Sonfonia. They are believed to be a certain Hadja Camara, in her forties, and her daughter Salématou Camara, a schoolgirl.

The macabre discovery was apparently made by the neighbours, who were alerted by the nauseating smell coming from the room: “It was a neighbour who was a police officer who called me on the phone to inform me of the presence of a lifeless body in the area. I came to the scene. We first forced the window and saw a body lying on its back. I immediately informed the Central Police Station and the district chief of Sonfonia-Centre. On their instructions, we broke down the door and noted the presence of another body in a very advanced state of decomposition,” explains Sana Sanoh, head of the sector.

The deceased had not been seen for almost a week. When she was last seen, Hadja Camara reportedly told neighbors that she and her daughter were going to a relative’s house in Boffa. But the trip probably did not take place, according to Mariame Sadjo Diallo: “Everyone thought they were traveling. It was when the neighborhood smelled nauseating and unusual odors that the local authorities were alerted. It’s really sad. We lived in harmony with them here.”

Another witness explains that the two bodies were found “on a mattress. Next to them was a pot filled with rice placed in a stove filled with charcoal.” Poisoning? After the report, officials from the central police station and the Sonfonia district authorized Civil Protection agents to bury the deceased. Until the time we put this article online, no member of their family had come forward.
