Shooting in municipal building in Vienna: Man hit several times

by time news

According to the police, what exactly happened in the municipal building on Troststrasse in Vienna-Favoriten late Wednesday afternoon is the subject of the investigation.
The following facts were considered certain until late Wednesday night: The police received an emergency call around 7:15 p.m. “A man explained that his friend was apparently shot with a gas pistol in an apartment,” explains Vienna police spokesman Markus Dittrich.

Several shots fired

A little later, the arriving uniformed actually discovered a seriously injured 38-year-old. The man is said to have had multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. The patient’s condition: extremely critical. When the Viennese professional rescue service arrived a short time later, the victim had to be resuscitated on site.

The patient’s condition is said to have continued to deteriorate on the way to the hospital. Who the perpetrator is, what connection he had with the victim and how the crime in the municipal building with 233 apartments took place was the subject of investigations until late into the night. The Vienna State Criminal Police Office has taken over the investigation.

“The exact circumstances of the crime are being determined at the moment,” said police spokesman Dittrich. Due to the gunshot wound, the investigators are currently assuming that the murder weapon was not a gas pistol but a “sharp” handgun. The crime scene itself was largely cordoned off. In front of the stairs where the seriously injured man was found on the second floor, several police officers cordoned off the area. They gave no information.

Ring perpetrator?

A young neighbor who lived in the immediate vicinity of the crime scene apartment told the KURIER: “I didn’t hear anything about the shots. But now, for my own safety, stay in my apartment.”
A procedure followed by many residents that night. Only a few young people were to be found on the street in front of the community building. Only one resident wanted to have observed how an unknown person rang the bell for the 38-year-old, who is said to be of Turkish origin Viennese, and then fired the shots immediately. A search was initially unsuccessful.
