The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics will be the first and record-breaking for some teams.
As reported by İdman.biz, the press service of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has prepared an article dedicated to this.
The Azerbaijani 3×3 basketball team did not go unnoticed:
“The Uzbekistan men’s national football team will go down in history as the first team from their country to take part in the Olympic Games. The same applies to the Azerbaijan women’s national basketball team in the 3×3 format. They won the qualifying tournament in Hong Kong earlier this year. The team will make its debut on July 30 against Spain.”
The IOC also spoke about a possible record for US women’s basketball players. The Americans could set a historic result in Paris:
“The U.S. women’s basketball team could win its eighth straight title on the final day of competition. If that happens, it would be the most in Olympic team history. The team, which has been a champion since Atlanta 1996, shares the record with the U.S. men’s team, which has seven gold medals from 1936-68.”
If Kevin Durant can set a record in the men’s team competition, then the female athletes have their own legends:
“If Diana Taurasi, the team’s veteran, wins her sixth gold medal, the team will become the all-time record holder in the sport. She currently holds the same mark as Sue Baird. The pair has not given up gold to anyone from Athens 2004 to Tokyo 2020.”
