New Delhi: Ven Ajaan Siripanyo has left the life of luxury and has become a monk. He is the son of a billionaire. His father Ananda Krishnan was a telecom giant. His wealth is around Rs 40,000 crore. Siripanyo was to become the successor of his father’s huge business empire. But, he chose a simple life. Ananda Krishnan is also known as AK. He does business in different sectors like telecom, media, oil and gas, real estate and satellite. Aircel was also included in his companies. The same Aircel which was once the sponsor of IPL team Chennai Super Kings. Due to his wealth, Krishnan is one of the richest persons in Malaysia.
Siripanyyo became a monk at the age of 18
Being a Buddhist and a social worker, Ananda Krishnan donates towards education and humanitarian causes. His son Siripayo is said to have decided to become a monk at the age of just 18. However, not much is known about the reasons behind his decision. Some reports suggest that he took up monkhood ‘for fun’ during a retreat. However, this temporary attempt eventually became permanent. Instead of running his father’s multi-crore empire, Siripayo decided to live a life of simplicity and beg.
All wealth was to be inherited
It has been more than two decades since Siripanyi renounced all the wealth he was supposed to inherit. He started living in the forest as a monk. He is the abbot of Dato Dum Monastery in Thailand. It is also claimed that the monk is a descendant of the Thai royal family on his mother’s side.
Not much information is available about Siripanyo’s early life, but he is said to have been raised in Britain with his 2 sisters.
