BJP leader Mayawati has abruptly praised Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah as the seven-phase assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh continue.
In Uttar Pradesh, the Apna Dal is forming alliances with parties including the Nishat Party and meeting the BJP. The Samajwadi Party, led by Akhilesh Yadav, has formed an alliance with the Rashtriya Lok Dal and the Prakash Samajwadi Party. The Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party are contesting separately. While other parties have been vocal in their support for Mayawati, Mayawati is slowly getting ready.
Recently, Union Minister Amit Shah said in a televised interview, ‘The BJP has not lost its importance. I do not know how many constituencies that party will win. But I hope that party will get a significant number of votes. ‘
When asked by reporters on Wednesday, Mayawati said:
Amit Shah said that the Dalit community will vote for the BJP. Not only the Dalit community but also the Muslim and other backward communities are voting for the Bahujan Samaj Party. Amit Shah agrees with this fact. It shows his generosity. He said the BJP would rule with a majority after the results were released.
Amit Shah’s comments on the BJP have led to speculation as to whether there will be a BJP-Bahujan Samaj alliance after the debacle. Prior to this, Mayawati ruled with the support of the BJP in 1995, 1997 and 2002.
