The prime minister of Kalmykia and the director general of the Russian Olympic Committee, Vladimir Sengleev, confirmed this information to the propaganda agency RIA Novosti, saying: “We have paid more than 200 million rubles to 245 athletes who were not allowed to participate in the Olympic Games.”

These bonuses, in some sense, were paid to athletes who were banned from the Games by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) or to athletes who could not obtain neutral athlete status at the Paris Olympics.

Athletes from Russia and Belarus were banned by the IOC from participating in the Games unless they competed as neutral athletes – without national flags, anthems or emblems.

In addition, Russian and Belarusian athletes must undergo additional screening to ensure that they do not support Russia’s war against Ukraine and have no ties to military sports clubs.

Also, no Russian and Belarusian teams are allowed to compete.

V. Sengleev assured that the last payments to the Olympians who did not take part were sent on June 23. The agency did not say what sums were paid out to the athletes.

The list of Russian athletes who will still go to Paris has been reduced to a few sports, and a total of 16 Russians and 16 Belarusians will compete.

Russian sports officials have said their athletes will not compete in the Olympics in France because of what they see as humiliating restrictions.

The Paris Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11. Only 16 Russians are significantly less than there were at the Tokyo Games, when 335 athletes competed.

Recently, both Russian wrestlers and judo masters, eligible to participate in the 2024 at the Paris Games, announced that they would not participate in the Olympics due to the “unsportsmanlike criteria” set by the International Olympic Committee for Russians.
