Loch Lomond, the official whisky of the British Open Championship
An Open Edition whiskey is released each year.
24-year aged limited edition, 63 bottles allocated domestically
The Open Championship to be held on the 18th… 8 Korean players to participate
Interliquor announced on the 16th that it will be releasing two new single malt Scotch whisky products, Loch Lomond ‘The Open Edition’. Loch Lomond is the official whisky brand of the British Open Championship, one of the world’s four major golf tournaments.
The two new products introduced this time consist of the ‘152nd Royal Troon Open Course Collection’ and the ‘152nd Royal Troon Open Special Edition’. Loch Lomond has introduced limited edition products every year to commemorate the historic golf tournament where the world’s top players compete. The Open Championship, which celebrates its 152nd anniversary this year, will be held for five days from the 18th to the 22nd at Royal Troon Golf Club in South Ayrshire, Scotland. Eight Korean players will participate, including Joohyung Kim, who was the first Korean player to place second in the tournament last year, as well as Guntaek Ko, Minkyu Kim, Siwoo Kim, Younghan Song, Byeonghun An, Jeonghun Wang, and Sungjae Im. With so many Korean players participating, this year’s Open Championship is garnering even more attention. To coincide with the opening of the Open Championship, which is garnering much attention, Loch Lomond collaborated with golf legend and brand ambassador Colin Montgomerie to create a special whiskey.
The Loch Lomond 152nd Anniversary Royal Troon Open Special Edition was finished in French Chardonnay casks. Here, Loch Lomond explained that the brand’s signature style of fragrant and sweet Chardonnay wine flavors are in harmony. It started with a lemon citrus scent along with green apple, pear, and vanilla scents, and finished with a honeyed taste of peach and flowers and a spicy aftertaste of subtle cinnamon.
The Loch Lomond 152nd Anniversary Royal Troon Open Course Collection is a limited edition of 4,500 bottles worldwide, with 63 bottles allocated domestically. It has undergone a long maturation process of 24 years. Maturation began in American oak barrels and hogsheads, and was finally completed in the finest Manzanilla sherry casks from Jerez, Spain. It is characterized by rich nutty and salted caramel flavors added to its unique signature style. You can feel the scent of sweet honey, vanilla fudge, and pickled citrus fruit peel with pineapple, and the scent of roasted apple, lime, nutmeg, and cinnamon meets the sweet nutty flavor, ending with a smoky aftertaste, Loch Lomond said.
An Interliquor official said, “This year’s Open Championship is receiving even more attention as many of Korea’s top players are participating,” and added, “We hope you will experience golf in a new way with the Loch Lomond Open Special Edition that we have launched to coincide with the tournament.”
