Three scenarios for the continuation of the African Champions League and the CAF Cup
Cairo – The interim secretary general of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Moroccan Abdelmonim Bah announced, on Monday, three scenarios for the continuation of the African Champions League and the CAF Cup in light of the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
This concerns the resumption of competitions in mid-June, July or next August, Mr. Bah specified in statements to the press, denying any intention of canceling these championships.
He added that CAF hopes for a clear improvement in health conditions in Africa as well as the end of the pandemic, in full coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO).
CAF will provide assistance to national federations that have cancelled their competitions due to the coronavirus, he assured.
CAF had announced the postponement until further notice of the semi-finals of the African Champions League and the CAF Cup, initially scheduled for May 1-3 and May 8-10, 2020, in view of the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The semi-finals of the African Champions League will pit two Moroccan clubs, namely Raja and Wydad Casablanca, against two Egyptian teams, namely Zamalek and Al Ahly.
As for the semi-finals of the CAF Cup, they consist of a Moroccan-Moroccan match between Renaissance de Berkane and Hassania Agadir and another Egyptian-Guinean match between Pyramids and Horoya Conakry.
