Didier Drogba proposes to convert his hospital into a coronavirus testing center

Abidjan – Former Ivorian international Didier Drogba proposed on Sunday to put his foundation’s hospital at the service of the State to convert it into a coronavirus screening center, local media reported.

The Laurent Pokou hospital (named after the former Ivorian international who died in 2016) was donated by the former star in a gesture considered by the prefect of Abidjan, Vincent Toh Bi Irie, as “an act of patriotism”.

Located in AttecoubĂ©, a working-class district of Abidjan, the hospital is not yet operational and could be converted during this period of health crisis. “It is up to the state to make it functional,” said the director of the Drogba Foundation, Mariam Breka.

The Ivorian government announced on Thursday that it would establish “a screening strategy, with the installation in Abidjan of 13 local sampling centers, out of a total of 45 which will be deployed” in the country.

Since the start of the crisis, a total of 574 cases of Covid-19 infections have been recorded in CĂ´te d’Ivoire on Sunday, with 41 new cases recorded on Sunday, according to the latest official report.
