TRENTO. “The race against time begins. We are once again faced with a ruthless mandate to kill a bear that acts like a bear“. The animal rights association OIPA wrote this in a note, announcing that it has given its legal office the mandate toproceeding to the TAR against thebear culling order responsible for the attack on 43 year old French runner which occurred yesterday in the Municipality of Droin the Upper Garda area.
“Another ‘hand to hand’ reaction – writes the association – the only response that the president of the autonomous province of Trento seems to know, Maurizio Fugatti which, instead of encouraging and promoting a peaceful coexistence with plantigrades, wants to see an animal that it attacked in a context that is still unclear die”. In the note, OIPA recalls how the provincial law that provides for eight culls per year is the subject of an EU Pilot procedure before the European Commission and which could be unconstitutional for violation of Article 9 of the Constitutional Charter.
The association Bears and Others-Animali liberi Odv also intervened with a statement saying it was against the culling and asking to find a solution for coexistence with large carnivores.
