A neo-Nazi nicknamed “Commander Butcher” planned to poison Jewish children in New York, declaring: “I get paid to torture a dying Jew.”

AP reports this.

Mikheil Chkhikvishvili, originally from Georgia, planned to distribute poisoned candy near schools and yeshivas in Brooklyn and planned other hate crimes.

The US prosecutor’s office and the FBI believe that Chkhikvishvili was the leader of the extremist group “Maniac Murder Cult”, whose members operate in Russia, Ukraine and the US. Chkhikvishvili was arrested in Chisinau on July 6 on an Interpol warrant and charged in the New York District Court in Brooklyn.

Last November, Chkhikvishvili proposed a mass attack in New York City on New Year’s Eve, in which a man dressed as Santa Claus would hand out poisoned candy to minorities. He also planned to hand out poisoned candy to children at Jewish schools and yeshivas in Brooklyn.

Jews were a special part of this neo-Nazi’s plans. In 2022, Chkhikvishvili was living in Brooklyn with his grandmother. Investigators found that he was caring for the sick in Orthodox Jewish families and working at a rehabilitation center owned by a Jewish charity.

He told his followers that he “worked in a rehabilitation center and privately for a Jewish family” where he was paid to “torture a dying Jew” and that he had almost killed him. He also sent photographs of the alleged victim in a hospital bed.

Chkhikvishvili had hatched plans to harass the Jewish community, claiming that “Jews are literally everywhere” in Brooklyn and suggesting attacking “some Jewish holiday” in schools full of children.

While sending messages to his accomplices and allies via secure messengers, Chkhikvishvili ran into an undercover FBI agent. From that moment on, his correspondence and ideas began to fall into the hands of US intelligence agencies. Moreover, Chkhikvishvili drew up a step-by-step plan and sent it to the FBI agent. The plan included the creation of deadly poisons and gases, as well as video reports of attacks. He also developed bomb-making schemes found on the channels of Islamic State supporters, and repeatedly praised jihadist ideology in correspondence.

According to the US Hate Crime Unit, Jews are more likely than any other group in New York City to be the targets of hate crimes.
